House furniture removals in Adelaide are a different job from moving a few pieces. A whole house holds dozens of pieces of furniture in eight or ten rooms, and they all have to leave, travel and arrive in an order that makes sense. Moveall moves the furniture of the entire house in one planned job: every bedroom, the living and dining rooms, the study, the laundry, the garage and the garden, wrapped, loaded and placed room by room at the new home.

This page walks through the house one room at a time, with what each room usually holds, how its furniture is handled, and what you can do to get it ready. Furniture Removalists Adelaide is a service of Moveall Australia Pty Ltd, an Adelaide removalist.

Furniture movers in Adelaide for the whole house
People search for furniture movers in Adelaide when they are thinking about the furniture first, and for house removals when they are thinking about the whole move. In a house move they are the same job. The furniture decides the size of the truck, the number of people, the time the move takes and the care it needs, so Moveall plans a house move around the furniture list. The questions at quote time cover the bedrooms and living areas, the access at both homes, and any heavy or bulky items.
What makes a house different is the sequence. A crew that moves a whole house well loads the truck so the new home can be set up in a sensible order: big bedroom furniture and beds reach their rooms first, the living room next, and the boxes after. That way the house works on the first night, even if the unpacking takes another week.

The bedrooms
Bedrooms hold the heaviest everyday furniture: bed bases, mattresses, freestanding wardrobes, tallboys, chests of drawers and dressing tables. Mattresses go into covers so they arrive clean. Bed frames and ensemble bases are blanketed. Wardrobes and drawers travel upright, wrapped shut, and they must be emptied first: Moveall’s terms ask for furniture to be emptied of loose items, and a full tallboy is a strain on its own joints as well as on the crew.
- Strip the beds and box the manchester the night before, keeping one set of sheets per bed in a bag you carry yourself.
- Empty every drawer and wardrobe, or book Wrap & Pack and the team packs them. Our article on emptying drawers before the removalists arrive explains why.
- Note any bed that was assembled in the room, and any wardrobe taller than the doorway. The page on dismantling and reassembly explains what to tell us.
Children’s rooms and nurseries
Cots, bunks, change tables and small desks are light but awkward, with lots of parts. Bag and label the bolts of anything you take apart yourself and tape the bag to the frame. Keep the children’s own favourite things out of the boxes and in the car, along with the cot sheets, so the first night in a strange room goes smoothly.
The living room
Lounge suites, modular sofas, recliners, armchairs, coffee tables, side tables, bookcases and the entertainment unit. Fabric and leather are blanketed and wrapped so they stay clean, modular pieces are separated into their sections, and recliners are carried closed. Bookcases and display cabinets must be emptied, with glass shelves taken out and wrapped on their own. Televisions travel in purpose-made boxes and wrapping, one of the items Moveall’s Wrap & Pack page names.
The dining room
A dining suite is often the most valued furniture in the house: an extension table, six or eight chairs, a buffet, a hutch or a display cabinet. Table tops are blanketed and their corners padded. Leaves of an extension table travel separately and are marked so they go back in the right place. Chairs are wrapped in pairs. A hutch is emptied, its glass doors secured, and it travels upright. For older and heavier dining furniture, read antique and heavy furniture.
Study, kitchen and laundry
Desks, filing cabinets and office chairs come from the study. Filing cabinets must be emptied, or the drawers locked if they are only light papers you are happy to move inside. The kitchen and laundry give up the fridge, freezer, washing machine and dryer as part of the house: defrost the fridge and freezer the day before and leave the doors ajar so they dry, and run the washing machine empty and drain it. Small appliances, crockery and pantry items belong in boxes.
Outdoors, the garage and the shed
Outdoor settings, umbrellas, barbecues, pot plants, bikes, tools and garden equipment are all part of a house move and all need to be on the list. Disconnect the gas bottle from the barbecue. Drain fuel from mowers and other petrol tools. Pot plants travel last on the truck so they are first off. If you are moving interstate, read the rules on soil and plants first: they are on interstate furniture removalists in Adelaide.
Labelling the house so the furniture lands in the right rooms
The simplest way to make sure every piece ends up in the right room is to name the rooms of the new house before moving day. Sketch the new floor plan, give each bedroom a name (main, Ella’s room, guest room), and tell the crew at the walk-through which furniture goes where. Stick a note on each door at the new house with the same name. Label boxes by room on the top and on one side. When the crew can read where a piece belongs, it goes there the first time.
| When | What to do for the furniture |
|---|---|
| As soon as you have a date | Book the move, send the full furniture list, mention stairs, lifts, steep driveways and heavy pieces |
| Two weeks before | Decide what is not coming and sell, donate or arrange disposal so it is not on the truck |
| The week before | Measure big pieces and tight doorways, plan the rooms at the new house, start emptying cupboards |
| The day before | Empty all drawers and wardrobes, defrost the fridge, strip the beds, clear the paths, park the cars out of the way |
| Moving day | Walk the house with the crew, then do a final check of every room, cupboard and the shed before the truck leaves |
| Within 14 days | Update your address with Service SA: one update changes your licence and vehicle registrations |
The last row is a South Australian rule: Service SA says you must update your address within 14 days of the change, and one update covers your driver’s licence, vehicle and boat registrations and some other cards. Our article on updating your address with Service SA has the detail.
House removals in Adelaide, with packing or without
Some households pack every box themselves and want the furniture moved. Others want the whole house packed. Moveall’s Wrap & Pack service packs all approved household items, supplying the boxes and packing materials, so you can head out for the day and come back to a house ready for the truck. Either way, the furniture is wrapped and handled by the crew on the day. See furniture packing and moving in Adelaide for what Wrap & Pack covers, and furniture removalists in Adelaide for how moving day runs.
If your new home is not ready on the day you leave the old one, read furniture removal and storage in Adelaide for how to plan around a gap. If you are leaving the state, see interstate furniture removalists in Adelaide.

Questions people ask
Do you move fridges and washing machines in a house move?
Yes, as part of moving the house. Defrost the fridge and freezer the day before and leave the doors open to dry, and drain the washing machine. Put them on your furniture list so they are in the quote.
Which room do you load first?
The truck is loaded so the new home can be set up in order: heavy, square pieces first against the walls, then the rest built around them. The crew plans the load at the walk-through so beds and big bedroom furniture reach their rooms early.
Do I need to be home on moving day?
Someone who knows the house and can make decisions should be there at the start, for the walk-through, and at the new home to show where the furniture goes. If you cannot be there, tell us who will be.
What should I not pack?
Keep valuables, documents, medicines, keys and the things you need on the first night with you. Do not pack anything flammable, gas bottles or fuel. Ask us if you are unsure about an item.
What is the most forgotten thing when moving house?
The places you never look: the shed, the meter box key, the top shelf of the linen cupboard, the garage rafters and the things in the letterbox. Do a slow final walk through every room and cupboard before the truck leaves.
