Norwood is one of Adelaide’s oldest suburbs, and its furniture moves show it. Sandstone and bluestone villas, workers’ cottages and terrace rows line streets that were laid out long before anyone owned a removal truck. Moveall moves whole households of furniture in Norwood and neighbouring Payneham, and the plan for each move starts with the street, the front gate and the hallway.

Both suburbs sit in the City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters, a few kilometres east of the city. Furniture Removalists Adelaide is a service of Moveall Australia Pty Ltd, an Adelaide removalist based in Wayville.
Removalists in Norwood: the streets
The Parade is Norwood’s main street, busy with shops, cafes and traffic most days of the week, and the side streets off it are often narrow, lined with parked cars and short of driveways. Many villas and cottages have no off-street parking at all, or a single narrow driveway beside the house. Magill Road along the northern side is a main road where stopping rules apply at busy times. For a furniture move, that means thinking about where the truck can stand, for how long, and how far the furniture has to be carried from it.
- Tell us whether the house has a driveway, and whether it is wide enough for a truck or only a car.
- Check the signs in your street for parking time limits, permit zones and clearway hours, and tell us what they say.
- If you can, keep the space in front of the house clear on the morning of the move by parking the household’s cars elsewhere.
- If the move is on a weekend with something on along The Parade, mention it: traffic and parking change.
Villas, cottages and long hallways
The classic Norwood villa has a central hallway running from the front door to the back of the house, with rooms opening off each side. It is a gracious layout and an awkward one for a long piece of furniture, which has to come out of a bedroom door and turn ninety degrees in a hallway that may be little wider than the piece is deep. Old doors are often narrower than modern ones too. Cottages can be tighter still, with a front door straight onto the footpath.
These homes often hold furniture to match: cedar and blackwood pieces, heavy wardrobes, marble-topped washstands and dining tables that have been in the family for generations. Each piece is wrapped in moving blankets in the room it stands in and carried with someone at each end, turned slowly through doorways. For old and heavy pieces read antique and heavy furniture, and measure the biggest pieces against the hallway using the steps on furniture dismantling and reassembly.
Payneham
Payneham, to the north-east along Payneham Road, has a mix of older homes, post-war houses and groups of units. Units bring shared driveways and common areas, where the body corporate may have rules about moving times and where trucks can stand. Check them before moving day and tell us, along with any stairs to an upper unit.
Moving into or out of Norwood
Moving into a character home in Norwood is a chance to plan the rooms before the truck arrives. Measure the new hallway and doorways against your largest pieces, decide which room each piece goes in, and put a name on each door at the new house. The crew places each piece where you want it, beds and big pieces first. Moving out, the same care applies at the other end.

Questions people ask
Can a removal truck park in my Norwood street?
Often, but it depends on the street. Tell us about your driveway, the parking signs and how far the front door is from the kerb when you ask for a quote, and the plan is made around it.
Will my wardrobe fit through a villa hallway?
Measure the wardrobe and the hallway, including the turn into the bedroom door. The steps are on our dismantling and reassembly page, and we confirm on your quote how any piece that will not fit whole is handled.
